Problems
High fluoride concentration in grounwater, population affected by dental and skeletal fluorosis, no treatments for fluoride removal applied in the country.
Targets
Research of an appropriate technology for fluoride removal from drinking water, diffusion of information on fluorosis and creation of technical skills as regards drinking water management.
CeTAmb activities
Preliminary local investigation and laboratory tests to select the best technology, construction and monitoring of bone char filters for fluoride removal and of a kiln for bones calcination.
Main results
Bone char has good fluoride removal efficiency, sometimes treated water has problems of colour and microbiological contamination (more detailed analysis are on-going).
